Making patient care primary
The Christ Hospital recognizes primary care as essential to your health and well-being. The Christ Hospital Medical Associates (TCHMA), the hospital-owned primary care physician group, was developed to assure the highest quality primary care for you and your family.
According to the Institutes of Medicine, most of the problems that people bring to the healthcare system are appropriately resolved at the level of primary care. And, the availability of primary care physicians has been shown to improve health outcomes for things like cancer, heart disease and stroke.
Physicians with TCHMA are among the area’s most respected providers of primary care and provide leadership for The Christ Hospital’s highly-regarded education programs in internal medicine and family medicine.
In addition to internal medicine and family medicine physicians, TCHMA includes geriatricians and endocrinologists to provide the full spectrum of primary care services. Each specialty is described as:
- Internal medicine physicians focus on the prevention and treatment of adult diseases for people 18 or older. Internists are equipped to deal with whatever problem a patient brings – no matter how common or rare, simple or complex. They are specially trained to solve puzzling medical conditions and can treat severe chronic illnesses even when several illnesses strike at once.
- Family medicine physicians focus on treating patients of all ages, from newborns to older adults, men and women, and all medical conditions. They also provide continuous and comprehensive care by coordinating other healthcare services you or your family may need.
- Geriatricians focus on the care of aging adults, 55 years or older. They work with a team of medical specialists and family members to keep chronically ill patients comfortable and at home. Physicians also network with community agencies and nursing homes to ensure all healthcare needs are being met.
- Endocrinologists focus on treating patient of all ages with diabetes and other endocrine disorders. The endocrine team cares for patients using the latest advancements in the diagnosis and treatment. All of the physicians have trained in both internal medicine and endocrinology. They work closely with diabetes educators and have partnered with preventive cardiology specialists, physicians specializing in wound healing and area primary care physicians, including TCHMA, to ensure pre-diabetic and diabetic patients receive the best care for all of their diabetes-related healthcare needs.
All of our physicians are trained and board certified to prevent and treat numerous medical conditions and are prepared to coordinate more specialized care if the need arises. A number of our physicians have extended their training in various areas of interest to better serve you. And, all of the physicians have access to the numerous resources, services and technologies offered by The Christ Hospital.
