The Christ Hospital is pleased to announce the opening of a new Urgent Care Center on March 17, 2011. The state-of-the-art facility, conveniently located off I-71 at 4440 Red Bank Expressway, Suite 110 (in the same building with The Christ Hospital Imaging and Diabetes and Endocrine Centers), will help to bridge the gap for urgent medical needs that are more pressing than a scheduled visit to a primary care physician, but may not require a more expensive trip to an emergency room. Patients will be cared for by experienced Christ Hospital physicians who are either board certified or board prepared. X-ray and lab services will be available on-site to quickly and effectively address injuries and ailments in a single visit.
“We encourage everyone to first and foremost develop a relationship with a primary care physician, but we also understand that because of busy schedules or urgent situations, there are times when a medical need is going to require immediate attention,” said Michael Jennings, M.D., medical director of The Christ Hospital Medical Associates, the hospital-owned primary care group. “With the Urgent Care Center’s extended hours, patients will have rapid access to quality care at a cost that is more aligned with that of a doctor’s office visit compared to a trip to the emergency room.”
The Christ Hospital Urgent Care Center staff will treat urgent medical needs ranging from acute illness, such as respiratory or stomach bugs, to infections, sprains, strains, cuts, burns, rashes, bites and more. The Christ Hospital Urgent Care Center will also provide sports physicals and sexually transmitted disease testing.
“Often, people who come to an emergency room with a non life-threatening injury can be treated at an urgent care center in a much shorter time and at a much lower cost,” said Jeffrey Craven, M.D., medical director of the new urgent care center “In fact, the average visit to an urgent care center is about a third of the cost of a trip to an ER.”
The Christ Hospital Urgent Care Center will accept most commercial insurance and will also welcome non-insured patients wishing to self-pay. The center does not require appointments and will operate Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Sunday, noon to 5:30 p.m.
